Holli Learns to Ride

April 24th is Great Grandma Darlin's birthday.  It's also the day that Holli learned to ride her bike without training wheels.  On the Saturday after we bought our house, we dug out the kids' bikes.  Holli decided that she wanted to learn to ride without training wheels.  Also, it was Dylan's time to learn to ride on the co-pilot, behind my bike.

Holli did a great job learning to ride, but we did have one scare.  As Dylan and I were riding along, Holli zoomed past us, missing us by only inches.  She was completely silent - apparently she must freeze up when she's in shock.  Anyway, after she was past us and there was nothing we could do, we see that she was headed right for the driveway where two men were doing some landscaping.  There wasn't much of a worse course she could have been on (short of an oncoming car), because she was headed straight for a big landscaping rock and a solid metal vertical post.  She ended up slamming into the rock, but the agility she had been harnessing over the last 5 years helped her take the fall with grace and she immediately jumped up and announced to the landscapers that she was okay.  After we made it over to her, she let out some of the tears that she had been holding back and revealed a bruised leg.  She got over that and then we kept on riding.  In the few days since that day, she's continued to get better and better at riding her bike, and can even take off riding up hill.  Also, Dylan is becoming a champ on the co-pilot; so now one of our favorite activities is going for a bike ride.  Ahh yea, I've been dreaming of this for years!
