It started Friday evening with the 4th annual Daddy Daughter Dance. We didn't live in Durango during the first DDD, but we've been to each one since. It started with Holli and I going out to eat a fancy dinner at her favorite restaurant, Tequila's. The theme of the dance was Under the Sea. We had a great time and the three hours of dancing were over very quickly.
When we got home, Uncle Deron was at the house with Abby and Dylan. We had been looking forward to a visit from Deron for a month or so. The kids LOVE Uncle Deron and we always have a lot of fun; and it's likely to be the last one for a while as he and Aunt Tina are moving to Hawaii next month.
On Saturday morning we had to split up because of the kids' conflicting schedules. Deron and I took Dylan to his soccer game at Folsom Field. Dylan is a lot of fun to watch playing soccer. He always 'swings for the fence' when he gets near the ball (watch out players on the other team). He scored a big goal and had it not been for the net, the ball would have landed in Colorado Springs.
Unfortunately Deron, Dylan, and I were unable to go to Holli's 4-H Gymkhana Rodeo in Ignacio since we were at the soccer game. Abby and Holli went to the rodeo with Holli's friend Halley. Holli competed in barrel racing, pole bending, flag race, keyhole, and goat tying. She got the best time in keyhole of all ages. In the end she was Grand Champion! Not bad considering it was her first time to compete in keyhole and goat tying. I think she's found her calling.
On Saturday afternoon the three boys went to Madden Peak with the dirt bikes. Dylan rode his Honda XR50 and Deron rode my XR400. Meanwhile, I took the rare opportunity to sit in a camp chair and relax in the tall pines.
After all that activity we met back up at the house and ate pizza and watched Nitro Circus. That movie is full of crazy people attempting various stunts that usually involve lots of air time and pain. After winding down for the evening Deron and I got to spend some time sipping a glass of scotch and talking about Afghanistan.
On the way home I got a call from a neighbor buddy who wanted to go for a dirt bike ride. So Bob and I rode the dirt bikes from DW2 to Cherry Creek. We then hit Gold Rush trail and Starvation Creek Trail in a big loop around the forest and then back home.
That was enough activity for me to call it a full weekend!
