Of course I'm thinking about my wife and kids a lot lately since I'm home alone. They knew this would happen and made preparations for the enevitable. They left me several presents. Holli made a card; it read "Who rides a seal? Daddy does! With the ball bouncing on the seal's nose while dad is riding on it. From Holli" The card came complete with a picture of me riding on a seal and a ball balancing on the seal's nose. Other presents included some of my favorite candies (reeces peanut butter cups and hot tamales), Daddy's favorite chips (ruffles), and a 6 oz can of Dr. Pepper. What an awesome family I have.
I just noticed one of the cardboard cutouts that Abby and the kids made a few days ago while I was at work. Since our stuff is in storage, we've been trying to come up with any type of activities we can. Fortunately Abby is really good at this. I brought home some large cardboard boxes from work. First the boxes were turned into a fort. Abby and I built the fort and the kids decorated the inside. After the fort was set up in the rental living room, and then moved to the kids room, it later was recycled into lifesize cutouts of the Abby and each kid. One day I came in from outside and was fooled by having the rest of my family replaced with their cardboard cutouts, sitting on the couch. I could hear giggling behind the chair as I played into it. Everyone really got a kick out of those cutouts. In fact, Holli suggested that I go to Burger King every day while they're gone so that I can get her another tiara from their version of a happy meal. When I said that I probably wouldn't want to go to Burger King by myself (Holli and I had just had a date night which included dinner at Burger King), she informed me that I could just go with the cardboard mommy.
I wish I had 1/10th of the creativity and imagination of the rest of my family!
