North and South

Right now, Abby, Holli, and Dylan are in KC.  They're visiting Joe and Jo Anne as well as some friends and other relatives.  That means the dogs are depending on me to feed them.  Poor dogs!

One thing I love about Durango is that it is right on the border between the desert and the mountains.  On Saturday, I drove the dogs down to Bisti Wilderness Area in New Mexico.  It is kind of like a small Bryce Canyon.  The weather was great.  It was dry and relatively warm.  The dogs had a good time wandering around.  and hiking up the little hills.  This was the first road trip for our brand new 1998 Honda Civic.  It has a mere 172,000 miles, so there's plenty of life left in it.

The next day (Sunday), I went up to Purgatory for some snowboarding.  My friend Dan set me up with a free pass, so all I had to do was to rent either skis or a snowboard.  Because of the new snow, I opted to go boarding for the day.  Suiting up was kinda funny since all my stuff is in storage.  I had a nice base layer of cotton clothes (perfect); and used a scarf that Abby had recently knitted for me.  For gloves, I had to squeeze Abby's XS gloves on, and topped it off with Dylan's goggles.  I'm sure I looked great.  Since I was solo, I took my ipod.  I had a great day up at Purg.  I was on the backside riding up lift 8 most of the day.  The powder slows you down, so it's most fun to hit the steepest slopes.  I was on black diamond runs a lot.  The ones which were groomed were awesome; however the ones with moguls beat me up a bit.  After I got back, I snacked a bit and then it was time to head to town to play volleyball.  We had a good time winning our first game.
